‘Can You Blog About That? Like, What the Heck?!?’

Here’s a quickie: After just two days of public school, we’re discovering that all kinds of school activities are scheduled at ridiculous times, like the New Parent Orientation on Monday from 9 am to 10 am in the cafeteria. How can anyone with a job possibly expect to attend that kind of thing? I mean, we’re lucky (uh, I guess) that I have no job, but still, Jean wants me to say, this is stupid, and a problem across the country (not that we’re really surprised by any of it).

“Can you blog about that?” she asks. “Like, what the heck?!?”

Can I blog about that? Yes, I can! It’s not like I have a job or anything to distract me from blogging. And yet I skipped it anyway! Take that, system!

  1. I agree. There is no way for working parents to attend any school activities without using all of their paid time off. I attended a flag salute at my child’s school one Friday and was 2 hours late to work.

  2. This is a funny topic, actually. I have a kindergartener who started in one school on a Tuesday, was yanked out by me and my wife on a Wednesday (major problems at the school), and then he started a new school on a Thursday. I decided to blog about it while we were in the middle of it. My wife and my mother in law begged me to take it down because they thought that someone at the school would read it and…I dunno…exact revenge on my kid. For the first time ever, I pulled a posting off. As soon as we were settled in the new situation, the posting went back up. I just thought it was funny. (And yes, if I wasn’t self employed, I wouldn’t be able to make it to a meeting ever.)
